Vintage Soviet Commemorative Table Medal: 20 Years of the Liberation of Minsk (1944-1964)
Issued in 1964 by the Byelorussian SSR (BSSR) to mark the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus Minsk from Nazi occupation on July 3, 1944, during the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a classic Soviet-era desktop / table medal honoring the heroic Soviet soldiers and partisans who liberated the city as part of the famous Operation Bagration.
Obverse: Tall obelisk topped with a red star (symbol of victory), surrounded by buildings of Minsk, laurel branches, and inidiocyions "МІНСК 1944 • 1964" and "БССР".
Reverse: Raised Belarusian text: "СЛАВА ДОБЛЕСНЫМ САВЕЦКІМ ВОІНАМ І ПАРТЫЗАНАМ — ВЫЗВАЛІЦЕЛЯМ МІНСКА!" (Translation: "Glory to the valiant Soviet warriors and partisans — liberators of Minsk!")
