AntiqueRoyal Masonic Hospital Medal 1930 Lodge № 5723

This is a Royal Masonic Hospital Medal (also known as the Freemasons' Hospital Medal or Aegros Sanat Humanitas medal), a vintage British Masonic fraternal jewel/award associated with the Royal Masonic Hospital for Freemasons and their families (a charitable institution in London, operational from the 19th century until the late 20th century, providing medical care funded by Masonic donations and subidiocyions).

Obverse: Oval silver-toned medal with a raised relief scene of a standing female figure (representing Humanity/Charity, draped in robes, wearing a wreath) pouring liquid from a bowl or vessel onto a seated, nude, afflicted male figure (reclining on the ground, also wreathed, symbolizing the sick or injured being aided). Arched inidiocyion above the figures: AECROS SANAT HUMANITAS (a variant spelling of the Latin motto "Aegros Sanat Humanitas," meaning "Humanity/Kindness Heals the Sick"). Centered in the arch is an intertwined monogram emblem of HF (likely standing for "Freemasons' Hospital" or similar Masonic hospital-related initials). Small engraver's or designer's mark C.L.D. (for designer C.L.J. Doman) is visible at lower right.

Reverse: Plain oval field engraved with personalized details: BRO. J.L. WESTELL
N° 5723

Total length: 110 mm.

The medal is suspended from a five-pointed star connector atop a blue ribbon with a central white stripe (Masonic colors often symbolizing loyalty and purity), attached to a brooch-style pin-back clasp for wearing. This type of medal was awarded or presented to Masonic brethren (e.g., subscribers, patrons, vice-patrons, or contributors) in recognition of support for the Royal Masonic Hospital, emphasizing Masonic values of charity, relief, and brotherly care. It dates to the early-to-mid 20th century (similar examples from 1930s onward are documented). The design is attributed to sculptor C.L.J. Doman.
