A remarkable piece of early Indian history from the Chola Dynasty, presented in the original Millennium Coin Collection display card.
This ancient 1 Massa coin is attributed to Raja Raja Chola I (985–1014 AD), one of the most important rulers of the Chola Empire. The distinctive design is often referred to by collectors as the “Octopus Man,” a memorable nickname inspired by the unusual appearance of the figures and elongated elements on the coin.
The coin is housed in its original display holder with the accompanying historical information card identifying it as a 10th Century Chola Dynasty coin from India.
The coin has a dark natural brown patina with visible age, surface wear, oxidation and areas of corrosion consistent with an ancient coin of this age. The surfaces and details are clearly shown in the photographs, including the natural irregularities and signs of age.
