Authorized by a Joint Resolution of Congress on March 4, 1909, "in recognition and appreciation of the great service... rendered the science of aerial navigation, in the invention of the Wright aeroplane, and for their ability, courage and success in navigating the air."
Obverse: Conjoined profile busts of Wilbur and Orville Wright, with the Great Seal of the United States in a laurel wreath and the inidiocyion "Resolution of Congress March 4 1909".
Reverse: Symbolic figure of the Genius of Aviation (an angel) flying over the globe with a torch, representing human flight conquering the world.
Measures approximately 3.25" × 2.25" (oval/rectangular format), solid bronze, classic high-relief design by renowned engravers (obverse elements by Charles E. Barber, reverse by George T. Morgan).
